Manufacturing Engineer - Vietnamese fluency required

Location - Sterling, Illinois 

Wahl Clipper has over 95 years of history as the world leader in the manufacture and distribution of professional and consumer clippers, trimmers, shavers, and personal care devices.  Wahl employs 3,200 employees in twenty countries and its products are distributed in more than 165 countries around the globe.

Wahl is currently searching for a Manufacturing Engineer that will interface and support our factory and suppliers located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.  This position will be located in our global headquarters in Sterling, IL.  The candidate must be fluent in Vietnamese (verbal and written) and must be able to travel to Vietnam frequently.

Primary responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing and operational support to our Vietnam operations and suppliers

  • Identify, direct, and support projects that will achieve quality, delivery, and cost targets

  • Design, develop, and qualify tools, equipment, and manufacturing processes

  • Support New Product Introductions

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Vietnamese (verbal and written)

  • 5+ years of “hands on” experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment

  • Knowledge and experience with grinding, stamping, or injection molding

  • Experienced in jig and fixture design

  • Experience designing and developing tooling, equipment, or manufacturing processes

  • Technically proficient with mechanical principles and basic knowledge of electrical principles

  • Working knowledge of quality control and assurance systems

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.

  • CAD experience is a plus.

  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices is a plus.

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing).

Warehouse Laborer -Part-time 

Location - Sterling, Illinois  

Less than 29 hours per week  

As a Part-time employee, benefits, including health insurance, will not be offered with this opening.

Wahl Clipper Corporation, in business since 1919, is looking for a PART TIME POSITION starting immediately.  Hours will be flexible.  We are the worldwide leader in Clippers, Trimmers and Professional products for stylists and consumers.  

Moves material to and from designated areas and completes shipping procedures after orders are released. Will be required to process shipments via UPS Line, Automatic Label Line, and LTL Freight area.

The Warehouse Laborer utilizes the computer, calculators, and radio frequency guns to verify part numbers and make the proper transactions to move inventory.

The Warehouse Laborer loads and unloads trucks and skids of finished products and properly stores the products, uses box knives to make boxes for outgoing shipments and retrieves products to be shipped. Utilizes the computer, calculator, and radio frequency guns to check availability of products, storage locations, and to maintain accurate inventory levels. 

High School Diploma/GED required. Must be able to life 20 lbs. constantly, 50 lbs. occasionally. Must have knowledge and ability to use and/or learn the appropriate computer applications, calculators and radio frequency guns. Basic math, attention to detail and organizational skills required. Must be willing to become forklift licensed.

Sr. Packaging Engineer

Location - Sterling, Illinois

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded consumer products, has an exciting opportunity for an energetic and team-oriented individual to fill the role of Sr. Packaging Engineer in the Global Supply Chain Division at Wahl Clipper Co., in Sterling, IL.  This role will design, and implement packaging solutions for both finished goods and raw materials, while ensuring that packages meet performance, aesthetic, and total cost requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work cross-functionally with the marketing, manufacturing, and logistics to design and develop packaging solutions for both products and raw materials

  • Ensure that packaging designs meet cost targets and meet manufacturing and logistics requirements

  • Assist in creating packaging designs that maximize consumer acceptance of the product 

  • Develop and deploy standard work of package design across global organization

  • Ensure that global packaging standards are deployed across the global organization 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, engineer, and innovate new concepts in packaging to delight consumers/end-users while meeting marketing requirements, functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing and distribution requirements

  • Ensure new products packaging designs combine appropriate marketing presentation and product protection

  • Stay abreast in the latest trends in marketplace packaging and innovations and work with marketing managers to incorporate these trends where appropriate for our end-user

  • Provide technical input into the package design process to ensure that package is designed to meet operational requirements while ensuring desirable aesthetic elements 

  • Continuous improvement efforts – Review existing packages, redesign, test, and implement packaging improvements with emphasis on cost optimization (direct or indirect)

  • Work with global packaging resources and suppliers to resolve any quality issues and improve packaging cost and performance

  • Develop standard work of packaging design – operating procedures, standardized practices, material specifications, and package testing methods

  • Global packaging expert - understanding of packaging materials, processes, and technologies

  • Stay current on new packaging materials, processes, and regulatory requirements

  • Ensure new product packaging designs are aligned to the manufacturing/distribution capabilities

  • Develop and manage the process to establish and maintain the packaging related data with the global ERP system to ensure that the packaging data is available and data integrity is ensured

  • Qualify new packaging suppliers and perform package testing and qualification

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

  • 5 Years of packaging development experience, ideally with consumer products

  • Hands on experience with CAD/Graphic Design software

  • Proven experience with packaging and printing technologies

  • Thorough understanding of packaging performance test methods (compression testing, drop testing, vibration testing)

  • Understanding of the impact of package design on manufacturing, material handling, and logistics/distribution

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to interface with cross functional business teams

  • Ability to sell new concepts and solutions

  • Ability to travel internationally 15% of the time

Part Time Electrician

Location - Sterling, Illinois
Day shift - 29 hours a week maximum.

This position is considered Part-time and as such no additional benefits, including health insurance will be offered for the selected individual.

Repair, maintain, and install: wiring, motors, transformers, lighting, and other electrical systems as well as 24VDC and PLC troubleshooting.  Mechanical repairs, hydraulic and pneumatics as well as machine relocations and installations and troubleshooting will be part of this position.

Duties will be as followed but not limited to:

  • Install, repair, and maintain; motors, transformers, generators, lights, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Operate a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.

  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade.

  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Knowledge of electrical application for high and low voltage electric system.

  • Skill in the installation, repair and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment.   

  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the mechanical trade.

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment applicable to machine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.

  • Must be able to work alone as well as with others.


Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years of progressively responsible journey level electrical experience; OR, Completion of a federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and/or maintenance and/or two (2) years electrical experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Senior Industrial Designer – Consumer Division

Wahl Clipper Corporation, the world leader in cutting hair, has an exciting opportunity for a talented senior level industrial designer to join our award winning US Consumer Sales and Marketing Division at Wahl Clipper Co., in Sterling, IL.   This Senior Industrial Design will be part of a multi-disciplinary group that develops the next generation of products to help continue our record breaking sales growth.  This position is accountable for the execution of design.  In this role, it is imperative to understand needs of the consumer, the latest trends in design and ergonomics to develop world class personal care appliances.   

Job Description:
This position must meet multiple deadlines in regard to designing and sampling products for research, presentations to customers, and managing the integrity of the design through market launch.   The Senior Industrial Designer must excel at free hand design, computer aided design, and sample making.  They must have complete understanding of Lean NPD and basic engineering skills in order to work with engineering to insure manufacturability of the designs created.  This position requires great attention to detail and up-to-date knowledge of computer aided design, model making, and design technique to enhance the performance of the duties.

This position requires the ability to meet aggressive deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, consumer, and team-oriented work environment.
