Project Engineer – Purchased Finished Goods

Location - Sterling, Illinois

Wahl is currently searching for a Project Engineer that will serve as a primary engineering interface between Wahl’s Global Product Managers and our suppliers located in China.  This position will be located in our global headquarters in Sterling, IL and report to our New Product Development Group. This Project Engineer must speak Mandarin Chinese. 

Key Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Direct development of new personal care products to be manufactured at our suppliers in China.
  • Primary interface between Global Product Managers and our Chinese suppliers - translating product functionality, performance, and cost requirements into a new product design.
  • Visit vendors on a regular basis to verify products meet all requirements

The ideal person for this position has the following minimal requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese (verbal and written)
  • 5+ years hands-on experience managing new product introduction from initial concept to high volume mass production
  • Technically proficient with mechanical principles and basic knowledge of electrical principles

PART-TIME Pre-Press Production Associate

Location - Sterling, Illinois

Wahl Clipper Corporation, in business since 1919, is looking for a Part-time (under 29 hours per week) Pre-Press Production associate in our Consumer Sales and Marketing Division.  This position will participate in reoccurring reviews of packaging projects with various Marketing Managers, and will primarily prepare and release files to our third party vendors.  We are the worldwide leader in Clippers, Trimmers and Professional products for stylists and consumers.    As this is a part-time position, there will be no benefits (health insurance, vacation pay, etc.) associated with this opening.  

The ideal person for this position has the following minimal requirements:

  • Must understand basic 4 color printing process along with additional spot colors if needed to improve on color consistency across product lines.
  • Must understand Adobe Illustrator and techniques on Layer Organization, Blending, Masking, Clipping Paths & the Pen Tool.
  • Must have prior experience working with Third party print vendors, understanding the process of releasing files to same vendors for print.
  • 4 – 6 years’ equivalent work experience in Adobe Illustrator OR 1 – 2 years working experience in a Pre-Press Production position using Adobe Illustrator.

This position is responsible for creating and modifying a variety of different types of accurate CAD drawings and models as requested by Engineers and various Plant Supervisors for effectively supporting plant operations as necessary.

  • This position will use micrometers, calipers, optical comparators and other measuring equipment as needed, both at CAD station and on the manufacturing floor at operator stations.

  • Must have good mechanical ability.

  • Able to read and follow procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the operation of CAD systems, Unigraphics preferred.

Electrical Engineer

  • Managing complex IT/business projects consisting of cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of product from concept to post implementation.
  • Monitors the project from initiation through production, interfacing with the sponsor, stakeholders, and customers regarding initial delivery. Utilizes visual management system to monitor progress of projects.
  • Manages the development stage of the system life cycle, may include, planning, designing, developing, acquiring, documenting, testing, implementing, integrating, maintaining and modifying IT/business systems.
  • Translates information, process and workflow findings and requirements into detailed specifications for new or enhanced systems.
  • Analyze information requirements throughout the enterprise. Document information requirements and all related processes in both current and desired future state.

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or Business/Engineering with strong IT coursework

Key Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide input and oversee the design of tooling, fixtures and gauges.
  • Responsible for tooling for new products, changes that need to be made and maintenance of tooling.
  • Assists New Product Development with getting prototype tooling and parts built and provide input on feasibility and cost of tooling.
  • Stay abreast of and facilitate corrections to daily production issues related to tooling.
  • Advises tool room support on repairs/changes to existing tools and review tool designs created.
  • Establish and ensure proper tooling documentation and drawings are maintained.
  • Assist in the development and application of preventative maintenance program for tooling.
  • Determine quick tool change process and justification.
  • Work to resolve tool related problems resulting in process optimization, improved quality and reliability.

The ideal person for this position has the following minimal requirements:

  • Good communication, organizational, and analytical skills along with good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, in and outside of the department and/or company.
  • Ability to manage several projects at 1 time.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 2-year technical degree and 5 years or experience.

Experience

  • Experience injection molding operations.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molds.
  • Experience working with outside tooling.
